Trends throughout the telecommunications and technology markets have centered on mobility and multimedia experiences. At the same time, the cloud and the benefits of cloud computing continue to garner significant attention. As companies prepare for the future, it’s critical that they understand these trends and how they impact their business model both today and tomorrow.
Dialexia is a next-generation communication software and services provider, offering products such as IP PBXS, hosted PBX, softswitch, billing and softphone and console. According to Ahmed Aina, CEO of Dialexia Communications in a TMCnet interview, the most significant technology trends impacting the way businesses conduct operations are mobility and cloud computing.
“The growing smartphone base is forcing companies to develop new systems to support their requirements. The question now is how to take advantage of these opportunities to make profits,” explained Aina.
Cloud computing is an opportunity for every business. Tasks such as storing, sharing and consuming resources are easier and cheaper than before, which helps businesses of all sizes. Cloud computing also provides enhanced security and robust fail-over to users. However, the security threats that exist and compatibility with all providers and manufacturers are preventing wide adoption of unified communications and VoIP.
“We are aware of that and it drives us to update our solutions and constantly work on the compatibility with different applications, devices and security process,” explained Aina. “The most important thing for us is to continue developing the legal aspects, to provide better services in the cloud and increase the confidence of our customers. I remember those days when banks were a taboo for people. The risks to save money in an external company were unimaginable. Nowadays, we all trust banks to invest and save our money.”
One trend that is expected to take over in 2013 is the emphasis on the customer experience. For Dialexia, however, it has been focusing on the customer’s needs since day one. Aina turns to Steve Jobs for inspiration on how to approach the customer experience. Jobs’ quote, “You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new,” is in the back of Aina’s mind as the company works on future needs just as much as the present ones.
Mobility and cloud computing have contributed to the existence of bring your own device (BYOD). Combining personal and corporate data into a single device, one provided by the employee usually, brings headaches and threats to IT departments. But the challenges with BYOD don’t just fall on IT; it affects the customers, too. For Dialexia, BYOD means it needs to standardize most of its products, which is not always appreciated by all customers or potential clients. “The users do not want to have all the same products with the same characteristics. Most of the time they look for something different, innovative,” said Aina.
Speaking of innovative, video communication is another technology that has yet to reach its prime. Although services such as Skype and Google Hangout will push the dynamic of the video market, Aina doesn’t expect video communication to reach the business field as a mainstream communications medium until at least 2014 or 2015.
However, one technology that is expected to rapidly expand this upcoming year is VoIP.
“The market will change rapidly and we will see new big players like Google and Facebook in the VoIP market. This will be a big hit,” said Aina. “Personas and speech will be major disruptive technologies that will change the way we interact with everything – smartphones, office phones and messaging systems. It is simply more natural to talk than type especially as we become more and more mobile, working while walking, eating or driving.”
Dialexia Communications will be attending ITEXPO, a communications and technology event offering a convergence of education, innovation and networking, in Miami from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. The company will be exhibiting its solutions in booth #536.
